VAR will 'kill football' after use in Coupe de la Ligue - Monaco's Radamel Falcao

Stewart Robson, Peter Walton and Alison Bender debate the use of VAR at the upcoming World Cup, and ask if referees are suitably prepared for it in the Premier League.

Monaco's Radamel Falcao criticised the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system as something that could "kill football" after it twice benefitted Paris Saint-Germain in their 3-0 victory over Monaco in the Coupe de la Ligue final on Saturday.

Edinson Cavani scored an eighth-minute penalty after Kylian Mbappe was fouled in the area by Kamil Glik, forcing a lengthy review, and Falcao appeared to have pulled one back in the 37th minute with PSG up 2-0 but the system ruled he was offside.

Falcao told Canal...

PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi gives coach Unai Emery full backing

BORDEAUX -- Paris Saint-Germain chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi has played down speculation linking the French capital outfit with former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel and given current boss Unai Emery his full backing.

Asked about the Tuchel speculation by Canal+ after watching his team beat Monaco 3-0 for a fifth consecutive Coupe de la Ligue trophy, Al-Khelaifi chose to back Emery.

"Unai is our coach," said Al-Khelaifi. "We support Unai. Each day, I see the names written behind Unai....

Edinson Cavani scored two goals (one penalty), while Angel Di Maria added a second, but it...

Kylian Mbappe cut his former club to shreds as Paris Saint-Germain beat Monaco 3-0 to win a fifth successive Coupe de la Ligue.

PSG took an early lead through Edinson Cavani's penalty, which was awarded after consultation with the video assistant referee. The system showed its merits, albeit with a lengthy delay, after Kamil Glik flattened Mbappe at the end of a jinking run.

Mbappe, who played in Monaco's 4-1 defeat in last year's final but then helped them win Ligue 1 ahead of PSG, was again the...

PSG aim to deliver treble of domestic trophies ahead of summer clearout

BORDEAUX, France -- Paris Saint-Germain can win a record eighth Coupe de la Ligue title and further add to their record as the undisputed best side in the competition's history if they can beat Monaco at Matmut Atlantique in Bordeaux on Saturday.

Coach Unai Emery is already seeing his current role offered to a plethora of names inside and outside of Europe, while a number of players appear to be on the way out. The Spaniard has remained tight-lipped over his future, simply remaining professional...
