Unai Emery happy to see weary PSG go about business in Coupe de France

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery was happy with his team's 4-2 win over Guingamp at Parc des Princes on Wednesday, which took them into the last 16 of the Coupe de France.

Adrien Rabiot, Lucas Deaux (own goal), Javier Pastore and Marquinhos all scored for the French capital outfit, while Marcus Thuram and Yeni Ngbakoto scored a penalty apiece in each half as consolation for former PSG boss Antoine Kombouare.

Current Parisien tactician Emery was pleased to have bounced back from last Sunday's 2-1 Ligue 1 defeat away at Lyon.

"I am happy with how the team reacted after last Sunday's defeat in Lyon," the Spaniard told journalists post-match. "We do not have time to rest this week, so we had to keep an eye on Saturday's match against Montpellier and rotate the squad a little.

"It is a shame to have conceded two goals but we scored four and we are just going about our business here in the Coupe de France."

Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was unable to keep either penalty out and felt that his outfield teammates could have controlled the match better than they did.

"We had chances to score and we could have had three or four in the first half but instead we conceded two penalties," said the Germany international. "Sometimes you have to hold on to the ball, move it around a bit and control the match until the moment comes.

"At 3-2 you never know if a counterattack is going to turn the match on its head. Fortunately, we scored a fourth and were able to see out the game calmly from there.

"The last four goals I have conceded were all from penalties and that is frustrating -- I need to start saving them. However, it also means that we have had some dangerous situations in the penalty area.

"Ultimately, though, the important thing is that we won. The Coupe de France is another trophy and that is always important to us."

Julian Draxler agreed with his fellow German and admitted that he, Rabiot and Giovani Lo Celso could have done more to help the defence.

"After our loss away at Lyon, we really wanted to win here," the former Wolfsburg man said. "When you look back at the 90 minutes, it was a good match and we are happy to have won it.

"Adrien [Rabiot], Giovani ]Lo Celso] and I played with perhaps a bit too attacking intent -- we wanted to score too much.

"We needed to help Marquinhos and Presnel [Kimpembe] a bit more -- they did great though. I am also happy to have provided an assist for Javier [Pastore]."

Marquinhos captained the side and scored PSG's fourth goal late on and the Brazil international has no doubt that Edinson Cavani will eventually set a new all-time goal record after a frustrating night up against Guingamp's Karl Johan Johnsson.

"It will be an important moment for Edinson, for the club and for the supporters," said Marquinhos to Eurosport France. "He cannot rush it.

"Edinson is a quality player and he will score when the moment is right."

Thomas Meunier echoed Marquinhos' sentiments and pointed out how Cavani was thinking of the team at all moments.

"Edinson had chances and we saw the goalkeeper do very well against him, notably with that double save," the Belgium international told Eurosport France. "He failed to score here and it happens but if he was really worried about it, I think he would have been more selfish.

"We saw there, at one moment, a one-on-one against the goalkeeper but Edinson chose to pass to Angel [Di Maria] instead of killing it. He plays for the team and that is great.

"I am pleased by Edinson's gesture there -- he thinks of the team and that is most important to me."

Montpellier visit PSG at Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 on Saturday, while the draw for the Coupe de France round of 16 will take place on Thursday night.
