France captain Hugo Lloris backs Paul Pogba to recover form

France captain Hugo Lloris says he expects Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba to regain his best form.

Pogba, 23, has yet to live up to the massive expectations brought by his world-record £89.3 million price tag since his summer return to Old Trafford from Juventus.

The France international midfielder has found the net just once in six Premier League games, and the lacklustre nature of his club performances has been mirrored by those for his national team, with Pogba the target of criticism in his native country from both national team coach Didier Deschamps and the media.

Ahead of Monday's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Netherlands, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Lloris told reporters: "There are quite a few players who were at the Euros who are having some difficulties physically. Paul is among them. He also has to deal with his record transfer.

"Lots of little things that are holding him back. He has a lot of qualities, talent. That's why we demand a lot of him. Things will come through work and perseverance.

"I understand there is a lot of expectation around him. There is also in the dressing room and from the technical staff. But France is above all a team, not a player -- we have to complement each other.

"Paul has everything to be a great player. We ask him to show that. He'll have his word to say [against Netherlands] in what is a big game."

With a draw and a win from their opening two Group A matches, France head into Monday's game in Amsterdam level on points with the hosts.
