Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho to miss France friendlies vs. Germany, England

Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho has been ruled out of France's upcoming friendlies against Germany and England after picking up a knee injury against Crystal Palace.

Sakho, 25, sustained the injury after landing awkwardly following an aerial challenge during the first half of Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Anfield. The defender attempted to carry on, but was replaced by Jurgen Klopp five minutes before half-time and departed Anfield on crutches.

Multple reports on Monday night said scans on Sakho revealed there was no anterior cruciate ligament rupture but the defender will see a consultant on Tuesday for a full diagnosis of the problem to see for how long he is likely to be out.

Klopp said that the centre-back would be assessed this week, and the French Football Federation (FFF) has now confirmed that Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps will be without Sakho for their upcoming fixtures due to a "sprained right knee."

Saint-Etienne's Loic Perrin has taken Sakho's squad place as France continue their preparations for hosting Euro 2016 next summer, with a home tie against world champions Germany on Nov. 13 before a trip to England on Nov. 17.

Klopp told Sky Sports of Sakho's injury on Sunday: "I don't know. It's too bad that he couldn't play on, but we have to wait for the scan tomorrow evening, because it needs a little bit of time.

"I don't want to speculate now but we have to hope it is not too serious. That was the worse thing. I would prefer to lose 4-1 and keep him in the team but it was the situation and now we have to see."

Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has been called up to the senior France squad for the first time, while Andre-Pierre Gignac and Hatem Ben Arfa are recalled for the games against England and Germany.

Lyon winger Mathieu Valbuena has been left out after the injured Karim Benzema was charged on Thursday with conspiracy to blackmail and participating in a criminal group as part of an investigation over a sex tape involving his international teammate.

Benzema's lawyer denied reports on Friday that the Real Madrid striker had confessed to telling Valbuena that he should hand over money to people attempting to blackmail him.
