Manchester City start Kyle Walker negotiations with Tottenham - report

Tottenham have opened talks with Manchester City over the transfer of Kyle Walker, according to BBC Sport.

Walker, 27, has been linked with a move to City -- who have released right-backs Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta -- and BBC Sport reports that negotiations are at an early stage and a fee is yet to be agreed.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Tottenham would demand a fee in excess of the £47.5 million City paid Everton for John Stones last summer.

Sources have also said that Tottenham will target another right-back if Walker leaves White Hart Lane.

Walker's former club Sheffield United will receive 10 percent of any fee above the £8m Tottenham paid them for the England international eight years ago.

Walker has made 183 Premier League appearances for Tottenham since then and was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2012, while he was also in the PFA Team of the Season that year as well as last season.

However, Walker finished last term behind Kieran Trippier as Tottenham's right-back, and was named among the substitutes for the FA Cup semifinal defeat to Chelsea and the Premier League games against Manchester United and Arsenal.

Trippier is expected to sign a new five-year contract with Tottenham this week, paving the way for Walker to join City.
