Paulo Sousa happy to dream about Fiorentina lifting Serie A title

Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa believes his side can win Serie A this season, if the whole city continues to get behind the club.

Fiorentina are outright leaders at the top of Serie A for the first time since Feb. 7, 1999, following their 3-0 win over Atalanta at the weekend.

Sousa, who replaced Vincenzo Montella in the summer, is encouraged by his players' form and has his sights on lifting the Scudetto.

"Dreaming doesn't hurt, but you've got to dream with your eyes open and with the right mentality," said the Portuguese coach, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"In a fortnight's time, we know we're playing against a [Napoli] side who are currently flying, and who have some champion players. There are other sides who are better equipped than we are, but we believe that we can compete.

"We're doing well, working well and the lads are following what I am asking them to do; they understand the strategy. We've won today, even though we didn't have all that much time to prepare this match, and we were up against strong opponents.

"I'm pleased for the lads, for this good performance. They have the belief all the time and they give everything in each game, and the results are arriving. This is a great feeling to have the fans and the whole city behind us. It's important to feel this around us, this energy that they are transmitting to the players."

Sousa believes the best is yet to come from Fiorentina, who have have not won the Serie A title in 47 years.

"We still need to work on our defensive organisation," he said. "We've got quality in our game, but we want to get even better."
