Giuseppe Rossi accepts smaller salary with more incentives at Fiorentina

Still working his way back to top form after a series of knee injuries, Giuseppe Rossi has accepted a salary cut at Fiorentina.

Fiorentina, the surprise Serie A leaders after six matches, said on their website that "the new contract includes altered economic terms, with a reduced fixed salary compensated by increased variables tied to appearances and goals."

Rossi's contract expires after next season.

The reduction reportedly cuts Rossi's yearly pay from €2.4 million to €1.7m, although he could make up lost money with performance bonuses.

The United States-born Rossi recently returned after 15 months out, but doesn't have a regular place in the starting line-up.

The 28-year-old Rossi is hoping to regain his spot on Italy's squad for next year's European Championship.
