Luciano Spalletti not set for Fiorentina job after Vincenzo Montella exit

Former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti has dismissed suggestions he could be named as the new Fiorentina manager.

Serie A side Fiorentina are seeking a new manager after sacking Vincenzo Montella earlier this month.

Spalletti has said he is not in the running for the post, strengthening suggestions Paulo Sousa is set to land the role.

"I was never contacted by them: I never received a phone call or query from Fiorentina at all," he said, talking from an event in Florence.

"I do want to coach and I will continue to do it, but you need a few things, such as a football, a pitch and a team to coach.

"These things haven't arrived yet but they might do in the future, either in Italy or abroad. If I find the right situation, it could be anywhere."

Spalletti also spoke about his relationship with Napoli president De Laurentiis, adding: "I did have a chat with Aurelio De Laurentiis, because we have been good friends for years, but it was just a chat.

"In truth, he had contacted me a few years ago too, not necessarily for a coaching position, but that didn't go anywhere."
