The pair's paths crossed at an awards ceremony in Florence on Tuesday evening, where Rossi spoke about his ambition to get back in action before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Italy coach Prandelli reaffirmed that he will give Rossi all the time he needs to make a full recovery from his latest knee injury.

"Winning the Coppa Italia is one of my main ambitions this season, and I'm working hard to be able to play in it," Rossi is reported as saying by fanpage.it.

"Every single one of us wants to bring the cup back to Florence. For me, coming to play for Fiorentina has been an emotional experience because they're a big club with a great history, and I'm playing alongside many top players in a side who play exceptional football."

Rossi was Serie A's leading scorer with 14 goals when he damaged cruciate knee ligaments in January.

After a spell receiving treatment in the U.S., the 27-year-old is now back in Italy stepping up his rehabilitation programme.

The player's agent has pencilled in a return for Rossi before the end of the month, although Prandelli has advised the former Manchester United and Villarreal forward not to rush back.

"I was delighted to see him here again," Prandelli said. "But let's not put him under any kind of pressure."

Before picking up his injury, Rossi was named by Prandelli as his first-choice striker alongside Mario Balotelli for the World Cup in Brazil.
