Two men have been detained in Moscow on suspicion of robbing a British reporter who is in the Russian capital to cover the World Cup, Russia's Interior Ministry has confirmed.
Russian news agency TASS reported that the journalist was working for the BBC and lost consciousness after drinking a drugged cup of coffee early on Friday morning and awoke to find his belongings had been stolen.
"As a result of the search operation, a suspect in the robbery of a British national has been detained," Irina Volk, spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry, said on Saturday. "Yesterday, the British national reported to the police that he had been robbed in a taxi.
"As a result of the search operation, officers of the criminal police found the car which the man had taken and one of the suspects had been detained. He is now being questioned."
Later on Saturday, Volk told Russian news agency Interfax that a second man had been detained.
The Interfax report said the victim woke up at a Metro station to find his mobile phone and bank cards missing.
A second World Cup reporter working for a British outlet said he was also robbed during the weekend.

Irish journalist Miguel Delaney, who writes for the Independent, said in a tweet on Sunday that his mobile phone was stolen the previous night.
