James Rodriguez unavailable for Colombia in round of 16 vs. England

James Rodriguez will not play for Colombia in their World Cup round-of-16 match against England on Tuesday, as the star midfielder failed to overcome a calf injury.

Colombia did not include the 26-year-old playmaker in their starting XI, and he was marked as "absent" in the official team list, meaning he is not fit enough to appear as a substitute.

James had been a doubt after picking up a muscular problem during Thursday's 1-0 win over Senegal and has not trained since that game. Coach Jose Pekerman said on Monday that he was hopeful James would play some part against England, but that was not to be.

The Golden Boot winner with six goals in the 2014 World Cup when Colombia reached the quarterfinals for the first time in their history, James was troubled by a calf injury earlier this month. He came off the bench in his team's 2-1 loss to Japan in their opener. James then started and set up two goals in a 3-0 triumph over Poland.

On the other side, Dele Alli is back in England's line-up after missing two games with an injury as coach Gareth Southgate reverts to the lineup which beat Tunisia 2-1 in England's opening group game.

Southgate has made eight changes to the lineup that lost the last game to Belgium. Midfielder Fabian Delph is skipping the game because he has traveled home to England to be with his wife for the birth of the couple's baby.

Colombia: David Ospina, Santiago Arias, Yerry Mina, Johan Mojica, Davinson Sanchez, Wilmar Barrios, Carlos Sanchez, Juan Cuadrado, Jefferson Lerma, Juan Quintero, Radamel Falcao
