Argentina remain No. 1 in FIFA rankings; Germany drop to third

ZURICH -- World Cup winner Germany dropped to No. 3 in the latest FIFA rankings, with beaten finalist Argentina still at No. 1.

Germany traded places with new No. 2 Belgium as their World Cup results dropped in value more than one year later.

The Netherlands fell seven places to No. 12, also because their third-place finish in Brazil counts for less in FIFA's calculations over a four-year cycle.

Colombia stayed at No. 4, and Brazil and Portugal each rose one to Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

Copa America winner Chile climbed one to No. 10.

Mexico used their Gold Cup title to rise 14 places to No. 26. Runner-up Jamaica are up 21 to No. 55.

The United States, beaten by Jamaica in the semifinals, improved five places to No. 29.

Wales have moved up one place to a new high of ninth.

Wales beat Belgium in a Euro 2016 qualifier in June, which resulted in a leap of 12 places in last month's rankings to reach the top 10 for the first time since they were introduced in 1993.
