Franz Beckenbauer: I did not 'chide' DFB chief for voting against Blatter

Franz Beckenbauer has denied a claim by Sepp Blatter that he "chided" German FA (DFB) president Wolfgang Niersbach for voting against the Swiss in Friday's FIFA presidential election.

Blatter, 79, was re-elected as the head of world football's governing body in a week that saw several FIFA officials arrested and a total of 14 indicted on charges of wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering.

Germany was among the European nations to vote for Blatter's challenger, Prince Ali.

Speaking to Swiss tabloid Blick at the weekend, Blatter claimed Beckenbauer -- a former FIFA executive committee member -- had "chided DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach" for not backing him.

"What happened in the past few days was very disappointing. [UEFA president Michel] Platini wrote an email to all associations in the night before the vote and asked them to vote against me and for Prince Ali," Blatter said.

"I talked to Franz Beckenbauer on the phone, and he told me that he chided the president of the German FA for voting against me."

But speaking to Bild, Beckenbauer said he had "talked to Niersbach in a friendly way."

He added: "There can be no talk of me chiding him, and I am not entitled to chide a DFB president."

Beckenbauer was provisionally banned from all football-related activity for 90 days last year after failing to answer questions for Michael Garcia's report into alleged corruption during the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The provisional punishment was dropped after the honorary Bayern Munich president answered the questions.
