FIFA president Sepp Blatter: I am a mountain goat

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has likened himself to a mountain goat as he seeks to win his fifth term at the elections on Friday.

Blatter, 79, is facing the challenge of Jordanian Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, after the other two contenders Michael van Praag and Luis Figo pulled out of the running last week.

The Swiss is favourite to win the support of the majority of FIFA's 209 member associations at Zurich's Hallenstadion on Friday and, ahead of the final week of canvassing, he chose to liken himself to an animal famed for its stubborn endurance.

"I am a mountain goat that keeps going and going and going, I cannot be stopped, I just keep going," he told NZZ newspaper in an interview.

Blatter, who was first elected FIFA president in 1998, added that he "is a simple, devout man" and revealed that when he returns to his hometown of Visp, the first thing he does is to visit the family grave.
