Sepp Blatter against suspending Israel for alleged player restrictions

CAIRO -- FIFA President Sepp Blatter says he does not want to see Israel suspended from world football for allegedly hampering teams in Palestine and will try to make sure it doesn't happen at FIFA's congress next month.

Blatter was asked about the issue at the Confederation of African Football's congress in Cairo on Tuesday.

Palestine's football federation has accused Israel of restricting the movement of Palestinian players between Gaza and the West Bank and has said it will submit a proposal for Israel's suspension at the FIFA congress in Zurich at the end of next month.

Blatter said suspending a national federation for any reason "is always something which harms the whole organization."

Blatter said he was due to meet Palestine football federation president Jibril Rajoub in Cairo later Tuesday.
