Germany top of World Ranking despite poor form, Belgium up to fourth

Germany remain top of the FIFA World Ranking for October despite a difficult month, while Belgium have climbed into the top four after swapping places with Netherlands and England have dropped to 20th.

Joachim Low's side have struggled since winning the World Cup in July, having slipped up in a friendly to Argentina and just squeezing past Scotland in a Euro 2016 qualifier last month.

And their patchy form continued in October with a first-ever defeat to Poland and a 1-1 draw with Republic of Ireland to leave them fourth in their qualifying group.

Despite the poor results, Germany are still ranked the best international team in the world, with Argentina and Colombia second and third respectively.

Belgium sit one place below after their 6-0 win against Andorra and a 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina in Euro 2016 qualifying was enough to help them leapfrog Netherlands, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Iceland three days after coming from behind to see off Kazakhstan.

France and Portugal are the biggest climbers in the top 10, moving up two places to seventh and ninth respectively, with Uruguay slipping to eighth and Spain dropping to 10th. Brazil remain in sixth spot.

The biggest movers in the top 20 are Croatia, Algeria and Ukraine, who rose five places up to 14th, 15th and 19th respectively, while England have dropped two spots to 20th.

Elsewhere, Togo have risen 73 spots to 52nd, Trinidad and Tobago have moved up 37 places to 49th and Northern Ireland sit 43rd after climbing 28 spots.
