Colombia, Jose Pekerman agree deal

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the team until 2018.

BOGOTA, Colombia -- Colombia coach Jose Pekerman has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the team until 2018.

The Colombian football federation says the 64-year-old Argentine signed the four-year deal following a successful World Cup campaign in Brazil that saw the team reach the quarterfinals.

The federation said in a statement on its website: "The Executive Committee expresses its pride in continuing with this great group of people that brought great results to the country."

Colombia were eliminated in the last eight in Brazil after losing 2-1 to the hosts.

Attacking midfielder James Rodriguez earned the Golden Boot award with a tournament-leading six goals, and joined Real Madrid from Monaco shortly after the tournament.
