Tuchel in line for Germany No. 2 job

Former Mainz boss Thomas Tuchel could be appointed Germany assistant coach after the World Cup.

After five years in charge, Tuchel stepped down from his role with Die Nullfunfer at the end of last season, despite earning the Bundelisga minnows a spot in the Europa League.

The 40-year-old said he felt his mission at the club was over and that the decision had already been taken in January.

According to Bild, Tuchel's next job could be to take over from current Germany assistant coach Hansi Flick and work under Joachim Low.

Flick announced in October 2013 that he will move on to fill the vacant German Football Association (DFB) sporting director post after the World Cup.

It is unclear, however, whether Low, who has a contract until 2016, will continue in his job following the tournament in Brazil, while Tuchel has long been touted as a possible successor.

Low has been in charge of Die Nationalmannschaft since 2006, when he took over from Jurgen Klinsmann, moving up from his role as assistant.
