Suarez referee gets World Cup semi

Mexican referee Marco Rodriguez has been appointed to officiate the World Cup semifinal between Brazil and Germany, according to The Guardian.

Rodriguez was involved in one of the major talking points of the tournament -- presiding over the Urugauy vs. Italy Group D match where Luis Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini behind play.

Although not cited on the pitch by any of the match officials, FIFA launched an immediate investigation after the game and an independent disciplinary panel banned the Uruguayan and Liverpool striker for nine international matches and from all football activity for four months.

The Mexican official is at his third World Cup finals and the match in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday will be first time he has refereed a game in the knock-out stages.

FIFA have confirmed that Mark Geiger of the USA will be fourth official for the match. He was also fourth official for Rodriguez in the Uruguay-Italy match.
