James Rodriguez 'could be Real target'

Roberto Carlos has said he believes Real Madrid could make a move for Colombia's World Cup star James Rodriguez.

The Monaco playmaker has been one of the outstanding players of the tournament so far, scoring five goals in his first four games, including a spectacular volley in Saturday's 2-0 win over Uruguay in the round of 16.

That form has seen increasing speculation that Rodriguez could be set for a big-money transfer after the tournament, and he told Spanish radio after the Uruguay game that he could be open to a move to Madrid.

While Monaco would be keen to hold on to the player, who they signed from Porto for around 40 million euros only 12 months ago, former Blancos defender Carlos told Marca he could see a deal happening if Bernabeu president Florentino Perez was keen.

"He [Rodriguez] is the latest sensation," he said. "He is at Monaco, which is a great team, a power in France. We can speak with Florentino. Florentino can do anything."

The ex-Brazil international, currently coaching at Turkish club Sivasspor, said he thought the impressive Los Cafeteros star would face his toughest task so far against hosts Brazil in a Fortaleza quarterfinal.

"Colombia is a good team, they are not just about James," he said. "We will see what happens after the game against Brazil. Fernandinho or Paulinho can mark him and he will not have so much space. We will see the true James then."
