Arjen Robben: Form down to fitness

Arjen Robben believes his excellent World Cup form is down to the fact that he has come into the tournament on the back of an almost injury-free season.

- McNeice: Chile slowed by respectful Dutch
- Honigstein: Dynamic Dutch duo take on the world

The Netherlands and Bayern Munich forward has been one of the outstanding players of the World Cup group stage, with three goals and one assist as the Oranje bagged maximum points in Group B.

He dazzled in the opening 5-1 rout of defending champions Spain, and told kicker: "We've done a great job as a team so far. We deserve compliments for how we have defended and created chances."

Last season, Robben made 43 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing a further 18.

That was in sharp contrast to the previous campaign, which was interrupted by injury problems, and Robben said: "Maybe my performances are more striking now because I have been fit for a longer period of time.

"When that's the case, I have my power and my speed, and I feel great out on the pitch."

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has revamped the tactics from 4-3-3 to a more defensive 5-3-2 -- a move that has not gone down well with some critics.

But Robben said: "We play a bit differently now, but that's only logical. You have to consider the qualities in the squad, and Louis van Gaal has done just that and chosen a certain tactic after we lost an important player in Kevin Strootman."
