Scolari will wait on Hulk fitness

FORTALEZA, Brazil -- Hulk left training and was taken to a hospital on Monday for an ultrasound scan, but Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said he will wait to make a decision on the striker's fitness.

-Hulk injury scare

"He is under treatment for the thigh problem, but we will wait until tomorrow to make a decision," Scolari said during Monday's news conference.

Hulk, accompanied by members of the Brazil team staff, left Brazil's camp this morning for Sao Carlos hospital, in Fortaleza, for an ultrasound, but the Brazilian Federation has not commented on the players' injury or test results.

"If he does not play it will be a huge loss but we have great guys to step in: Bernard, Willian, Ramires," Thiago Silva said. "Scolari can close his eyes and pick one."

Hulk left the team's training session on Sunday with a muscle injury in his left leg.

He had practiced for less than 15 minutes when he felt something in his leg and left the field. He was walking without a limp, but then sat down on a bench and lowered his head.

A few moments later, he went to the locker room, accompanied by one of the team's doctors.

"When I felt uncomfortable, I decided to stop. I stopped as a precautionary measure," he said on Sunday. "We have two days left for the game (against Mexico). I am good and hope to be 100 percent to help (the team). At a World Cup, we need to be able to face anything."

"I felt pain when I tried kicking the ball harder and when I lifted my foot on another play," he said on Sunday. "I want to play. We have two days; I will work hard to recover as fast as I can and will see whether I can make it. When you are playing in a World Cup, you want to play. You cannot go crazy and I hope to be OK to help the team."

Brazil traveled to the northeastern city of Fortaleza on Sunday in advance of Tuesday's game vs. Mexico. Luiz Felipe Scolari was expected to address the media ahead of the Mexico game.
