VITORIA, Brazil -- Cameroon captain and striker Samuel Eto'o has missed training for a second straight day at the World Cup and is an injury doubt for the must-win group game against Croatia.
Eto'o was again absent for the workout on Sunday at Cameroon's base in Vitoria and coach Volker Finke said the forward -- whose contract at Chelsea expires this summer -- was struggling with the same right knee injury he nursed throughout the build-up to the World Cup.
The player himself confirmed via Twitter later on Sunday that he is likely to the match.
The doctors confirm! I would probably not be able to play the match vs Croatia on Wed, june18th due to an injury on my knee causing me pain.- Samuel Eto'o (@setoo9) June 15, 2014
Cameroon lost 1-0 to Mexico in their opening Group A match and will next face Croatia, which fell to defeat in their first game to Brazil, on Wednesday.
This World Cup is likely to be the last for the 33-year-old Eto'o, Cameroon's leading all-time scorer. He is playing at his fourth World Cup.
