Chile's Jara wary of Spain backlash

Chile defender Gonzalo Jara has warned his teammates to beware of a backlash from defending champions Spain after their stunning 5-1 defeat by Netherlands.

Chile's Sampaoli: We weren't at our best

Vicente del Bosque's side took a 1-0 lead before a spectacular Robin van Persie equaliser preceded four more second-half goals as the Spanish defence collapsed.

The result piles the pressure on Spain -- who are three points behind Chile after they began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Australia later the same day.

"They need to win," Nottingham Forest defender Jara told FIFA.com.

"At the last World Cup, Spain lost against Switzerland in their opening game. Now it's the same.

"It will be really difficult to face Spain. But we've played many friendlies against them -- we know their tactics, and we know their football."

Chile had seemed set for a comfortable win against the Socceroos after two goals in as many minutes gave them a comfortable cushion before the quarter-hour mark.

Australia rallied, and Tim Cahill pulled a goal back -- only for a late Jean Beausejour strike to put an end to their hopes of a comeback.

And Jara praised their performance, saying: "They have a very good team. They play with wingers, they put every single ball into the box, and they have a really good player in Tim Cahill.

"We can play much better. In the second half it was really, really hard after you've been playing in 30 degrees.

"We needed to win the first game. It was a very important three points -- we know we have a very difficult group."
