Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm will be fit

Germany captain Philipp Lahm and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be fit in time for the World Cup despite suffering injuries in the German Cup final, Bayern Munich announced on Monday.

Manuel Neuer and Philipp Lahm should both be fit in time for the World Cup, Bayern Munich said.

Neuer hurt his right shoulder during a clearance in extra time during Bayern Munich's 2-0 defeat of Borussia Dortmund, and Lahm was substituted after injuring his left ankle.

While the 28-year-old keeper went the full distance on Saturday, he was already not in a good mood at Munich's Marienplatz, where the Guardiola side celebrated their domestic double.

The Germany keeper underwent an examination on Monday, and when leaving the facilities of Bayern team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt was pictured with his right shoulder in a sling by Sky News.

But Bayern said his World Cup was not in jeopardy and that both he and Lahm will travel with the national team to the training camp in northern Italy on Wednesday.

Neuer has to wear a brace and will be treated in the camp. His response to treatment will determine how long he will be unable to train.

Lahm will not be able to practice for up to seven days because of a bruise.

"We are optimistic in regards to the World Cup participation of Manuel and Philipp, both, however, need to be treated intensively," Germany head coach Joachim Loew said via the German football federation (DFB). It is good and important that we will have them in South Tirol [at the Germany training camp] from day one, in spite of them not being able to train at the beginning."

The statement made no mention of midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who missed Saturday's final with a knee injury, but previous reports said he was not seriously hurt.

Neuer has won 45 caps for Germany and played the 2010 World Cup as well as the 2012 European Championships. He has won one Champions League trophy and two German championships and cups each with FC Bayern, as well as one German cup with his former club FC Schalke 04.

Should Neuer miss the start of the World Cup, the Nationalmannschaft could start with Borussia Dortmund's Roman Weidenfeller in goal. The 33-year-old has international experience at club level, but so far has won only one cap for Germany.

Germany coach Joachim Loew is taking 27 players to the training camp. He will cut four players and announce the final squad after the June 1 friendly against Cameroon. Germany also plays Armenia on June 6, one day before traveling to Brazil.

The Germans open their World Cup campaign against Portugal on June 16 in Salvador, then play Ghana on June 21 in Fortaleza and conclude the group stage against the United States on June 26 against the United States in Recife.
