Herrera is Mexico's unheralded star

Cesare Prandelli won't drop Chiellini

Italy manager Cesare Prandelli says he will not be applying the national team's ethical code to Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini, who was banned for three matches on Monday.

Television evidence was used by the Italian Football Association (FIGC) to view an incident in Juve's 1-0 win over Roma from the weekend where Chiellini was seen to elbow Miralem Pjanic.

Prandelli made it one of his policies shortly after taking over as Italy manager not to call on players who were banned domestically, but he is set to make an exception with Chiellini.

"I've got total respect for the sports disciplinary commission, but I've seen the incident with Chiellini over and over again and, for me, it wasn't a violent gesture," Prandelli told ANSA, adding that he is not concerned about being criticised for making such an exception.

"There have been controversies about the ethical code for the past four years."

Prandelli names a 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup on Tuesday. Chiellini is likely to figure, even if the Italy manager left Roma striker Mattia Destro out of his previous squad selection after Destro was given a five-game ban for violent conduct, again with TV evidence used in that case.
