Tevez not distracted by World Cup place

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez insists his priority is winning Serie A and not going to the World Cup, something he admits is looking increasingly unlikely.

• Rzouki: It's not over for the defeated Old Lady

The Argentine netted his 19th league goal of the season as Juve took a step closer to a third straight scudetto with a 3-1 win at Sassuolo on Monday night.

That goal will probably not convince Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella to call him up for the World Cup, though, with Tevez practically giving up hope of visiting South America as anything other than a tourist this summer.

"Maybe the national team coach doesn't have Sky to watch Juve's games," Tevez told reporters. "He's got a strong enough character to decide who will be called up and who won't. Winning the league with Juve is the primary objective, and all the rest comes after that."

Juve could be crowned champions of Italy for the 30th time without even kicking a ball this Sunday -- Roma need to beat Catania to keep alive their faint hopes of catching the Bianconeri.

"It doesn't matter when we win it," Tevez continued. "We can win it in the dressing room, in the hotel or on the field, it would be sensational anywhere. Juve are playing an amazing season and it makes no difference now how we clinch the title. We're just one game away and this is what matters."

As a result of being so close to what seems an inevitable title success -- Juve have lost only two games all season and would need to lose their last three for Roma to overtake them -- the Old Lady can now focus all efforts on Thursday night's Europa League semifinal return with Benfica.

They need to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg to reach the final, which will be staged at the Juventus Stadium next month.

"We're still hungry and we want the cup too," Tevez said. "When you put the Juventus shirt on, you always have hunger to win, whatever game you are playing in."
