Prandelli set to sign new Italy deal

Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has told ANSA that he is "satisfied and proud" to extend his contract with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) by two years.

Cesare Prandelli had urged Italy not to take their seeding place for granted. They promptly drew at home to Armenia.
Cesare Prandelli had been linked with the Tottenham job.

World Cup Daily

Prandelli, who took charge of the Azzurri in 2010, had previously hinted at his desire to return to club management following this summer’s World Cup, when his original deal was due to expire.

However, following talks with the FIGC, the former Fiorentina coach, who has been linked with Tottenham in recent months, has opted to stay on as Italy boss until the end of Euro 2016.

"I feel great satisfaction and I'm proud that the federation have offered me a two-year renewal, regardless of how the World Cup goes," Prandelli said. "Because of this, I gave my total availability."

Prandelli has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, but he has agreed in principle to stick around and will reportedly sign the contract next week.

The Italian guided the nation to the final of Euro 2012, losing out to Spain, while he also led them to qualification for this summer's World Cup quicker than any other previous Azzurri coach has managed.

Among the objectives of Prandelli going forward, based on his new deal, are to better harmonise the calendar of official competitions and friendly matches, as well as the general preparation of the national team through a closer cooperation with the Lega Serie A and Lega Serie B.

Prandelli, who played for Juventus, has also managed Lecce, Verona, Venezia, Parma and Roma.
