Nabil Bentaleb to play for Algeria
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has pledged his international future to Algeria.
Lille-born Bentaleb, 19, has represented France at junior level but is eligible to play for Algeria through his parents.
The Algerian Football Federation has now announced that he will be part of the squad to face Slovenia in a friendly next month.
“He has agreed to play for the country of his parents after meeting Algerian Football Federation president Mohamed Raouaraoua,” the federation said in a statement.
“Bentaleb will be called up for the next phase of the national team's preparations on March 1, ahead of the match against Slovenia on March 5 in Blida.”
Algeria have been drawn in Group H for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, alongside Belgium, South Korea and Russia.
Bentaleb broke into the first-team reckoning at Spurs following the appointment of Tim Sherwood as head coach earlier this season and has made a positive impression in the Premier League.
