Cesare Prandelli targeting WC final
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli says his side are heading to Brazil this summer to reach the World Cup final.
The Azzurri’s last experience of the tournament ended in embarrassment in 2010 as they crashed out of the group stage without winning a single game.
However, following the appointment of Prandelli after that debacle, Italy ended up progressing all the way to the final of Euro 2012, losing out to Spain.
And although the former Fiorentina boss does not consider his side one of the favourites in Brazil this summer, he feels the Azzurri have the ability to reach the last two once again.
"As a philosophy, we're not going to Brazil just to go as far as we possibly can, we're planning every aspect in view of reaching the final," Prandelli told Tuttosport.
"This has got to be the winning mentality which guides us.
"Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain are the favourites, and then there is us, Uruguay, England, Holland, Belgium, Colombia and Japan."
Italy, who have been drawn in Group D, start their World Cup campaign against England, before facing Costa Rica and Uruguay.
