Kwadwo Asamoah: U.S. will be a war
When the World Cup draw was announced in Decemeber, Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah wasn't concerned with the two European giants that fell into the Black Star's group.
"I didn't even think about Germany and Portugal," Asamoah told Goal Ghana. "What came into my mind was, 'These USA people again?'"
Ghana has eliminated the United States from two straight World Cups, beating the Americans 2-1 in the final group stage game in 2006 and again in the round of 16 in 2010.
The U.S. will face Ghana for a third straight World Cup in the team's opening group stage match this summer in Brazil.
With Portugal and Germany awaiting both teams in Group G, points could come at a premium and Asamoah said he expects the Ghana-U.S. matchup to be a "war."
"I think it is going to be war because they won't sit back to lose three times to Ghana," said Asamoah, who plays his club football for Juventus. "It is not going to be easy for only us, but Germany and Portugal too. There is no group favourite."
Asamoah will be playing in his second World Cup and said he believes "with team spirit we can move forward" out of the group stage.
"It is all about believe and determination. We are going to do our best to come out," Asamoah said. "Ghanaians should believe in us because we are the same players that qualified for the World Cup."
