FIFA fines England and Polish FAs
The English and Polish football associations have been fined as a result of crowd trouble during the teams’ World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Oct. 15.
FIFA announced last month that it was opening disciplinary proceedings, and the English FA -- responsible for stadium security as the host nation -- has been fined 10,000 Swiss francs (nearly 7,000 pounds) for failing to prevent Polish fans from setting off flares, while one away fan also entered the pitch.
The Polish FA was fined 30,000 Swiss francs (20,500 pounds) for "incidents of crowd disturbance", with 16 fans arrested in Wembley’s away section for lighting pyrotechnics before and during the game.
England claimed a 2-0 win over Poland to secure their place at the 2014 World Cup.
