Netherlands Kit: Through the years

Design: Perhaps second only to Brazil in terms of instant recognition across the globe, Netherlands all orange attire has been legendary ever since the days of Cruyff and total football in the 1970s.

Short History: Netherlands actually played in dark blue with orange socks on their first World Cup outing in 1934, but have been in their famous Oranje colour scheme ever since. For the most part, up to the 2002 competition, white shorts were used as contrast to the brightness of the shirt. However, in Japan and Korea, the alternative black shorts became the first choice option, while the 2006 World Cup saw a switch to all orange for the first time and maintained through to their appearance in the final of the 2010 competition. For all the complications with shorts, the orange shirt has remained largely untouched throughout that time, with only minor trim alterations to speak of.

The greatest kit: The shirt which saw Netherlands to consecutive finals in 1974 and 1978 was largely the same, with the exception of an altered collar design. With black stripes down the arms, white shorts and orange socks, it is the classic Netherlands design remembered by many to this day.

Kits through the years:

Netherlands, incredibly, have never won the prize in their history.
