Argentina Kit: Through the years

Design: Argentina's home strip for the 2014 World Cup features their traditional sky blue and white stripes, but will this time be accompanied by white shorts and socks in a major step away from tradition. Adidas' logo and stripes stand out as part of the design's black trim, which can also be seen on the hem of the sleeves and around the badge. A gradient effect also sees the stripes lighten towards the base of the shirt. A gold stripe travels across the reverse and down both sides of the shirt, while a two-tone sky blue hoop adds individuality to the team's otherwise plain socks.

Short History: Argentina have been highly consistent in their kit design over the years, with their sky blue and white vertical stripes having been in place since their first World Cup appearance in 1930. At that competition the team played in dark blue shorts, but ever since, the side have stuck to black shorts and, for all competitions since 1978, white socks. Adidas have been the kit manufacturer for all tournaments since 1990, when the company's three-stripes were first incorporated on the sleeves as part of the blue and white design. In 2002 and 2006, though, the company's signature motif was changed to black, as it will be in Brazil next summer.

The greatest kit: The kit nearly everyone pictures when it comes to Argentina is the Mexico 1986 effort made famous by Diego Maradona and company en-route to World Cup glory. With thick stripes and a white rounded collar, the design of the shirt was simple but effective. Black shorts with white trim and white socks with thin blue hoops near the top completed the ensemble.
