Qatar determined to host World Cup

Calls for the 2022 World Cup to be relocated have been dismissed by Hassan al-Thawadi, chief of the Qatar bid.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter admitted making a mistake in awarding the tournament to the country during their summer, and plans are underway to discuss moving the tournament to the winter.

The Association of European Professional Football Leagues has urged caution in moving the tournament to winter, while Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has claimed awarding the World Cup to another country could be an option if a suitable compromise cannot be reached.

But Al-Thawadi has told the BBC that Qatar are delivering on their promises and have stuck to the hosting agreement.

"We've worked very, very hard to ensure we're within the rules of the bidding, within the rules of the hosting agreement," he said.

"At the same time we're delivering on all the promises that we've made. We're working very hard to deliver it. The commitment is there.

"[Qatar] is the right place, the Middle East is the right place. We are representing the Middle East, it is a Middle Eastern World Cup, so it is the right place. The Middle East deserves to host a major tournament."

Qatar defeated rival bids from South Korea, Japan, Australia and the United States in December 2010 to win the right to host the tournament.
