How Colombia can be seeded at the World Cup finals for Russia 2018

Colombia are in one of the automatic qualifying positions for the World Cup, so know victory in their remaining qualifier will take them to Russia. But defeat to Paraguay on Thursday night means they now have little chance of being seeded.

Russia will be seeded as hosts, and joined by the top seven qualifiers based upon the October FIFA World Ranking, which is published after the next round of qualifiers.

They can now get no more than 1,180 ranking points, which means they will be at least 13th in the new ranking, but it is highly unlikely that six teams will slip up.

But how can this be achieved by Colombia in the Dec. 1 group-stage draw?

They all five of the following to happen, as another is assured by them beating Peru in their final qualifier.

- Argentina fail to qualify
- Portugal fail to qualify
- Switzerland fail to beat Portugal (away)
- Chile lose to Brazil
- France fail to win their game
