Ghana's chaotic World Cup to become movie

Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah discusses the overall performance with the African teams that participated in the tournament.

While their actual on-pitch performances left much to be desired, the rest of Ghana's World Cup campaign provided a cavalcade of thrills and spills -- with infighting, squabbles over bonuses, boycott threats and multiple player expulsions, slushing together to create a fantastic casserole of chaos.

Whereas the football was mostly forgettable, it appears that Ghana's World Cup maelstrom has caught the eye of Hollywood, with reports that director Darryl Wharton-Rigby has already begun writing a treatment centred around the 48 hours before the Black Stars' final group game.

Sulley Muntari was sent home early from Ghana's World Cup campaign.

As you may recall, the Ghanaian FA were forced to fly a plane containing $3 million out to Brazil in order to pay the Ghana players their $100,000 bonuses in advance following a collective threat to boycott the Portugal match over unpaid bonuses.

According to Hollywood news website The Wrap, the bickering over Ghana's bonuses is being turned into a movie provisionally entitled "The Wall Pass" -- though the plot, it would seem, has been slightly dramatised.

"Wharton-Rigby's script will follow a courier who's tasked with bringing $3 million to an African soccer team, which refuses to play until it's paid -- in cash."

"Things go awry when the courier is ambushed on the way to make the drop, leaving him less than 12 hours to recover the stolen money."

It's already tacked on the bottom of Toe Poke's "must watch" list, right under that film about the spectacular formation of FIFA.
