Bayern hope to add Club World Cup

Bayern Munich are hoping to add another piece of silverware at the FIFA Club World Cup ahead of their first game against Guangzhou Evergrande on Tuesday.

Schaaf: Herbstmeister!

Bayern, who won the competition in its former guise as the Intercontinental Cup in 1976 and 2001, enter at the semifinal stage against Asian Champions League winners Guangzhou in Agadir, Morocco.

Adding a first-ever Club World Cup title to their honours board would complete an unbelievable 2013 for the Bavarians. They erased nearly every record in the Bundesliga history books and became first German team to win the Treble -- Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB Pokal -- and also beat Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in Prague at the start of this season. On Sunday, Bayern were named German Team of the Year.

In the Bundesliga, Bayern have picked up 93 of a possible 99 points, won every one of their 17 home games and have not been defeated in 41 consecutive matches.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told reporters after the 3-1 win at home to Hamburg on Saturday afternoon that winning the Club World Cup would mean they "have won every important title there is."

Later on Saturday, Bayern flew out to Agadir, where they prepare for their Club World Cup debut. "We want to take the chance to crown a year of superlatives," Rummenigge added.

Franck Ribery said: "It would be the perfect ending for a super year."

Dante, meanwhile, admitted the squad is suffered from fatigue but is still hungry. "We should not say that we are happy that it's over," he said. "We should be delighted to be out on the pitch every time we are out there. That we are tired is also clear."

Skipper Philipp Lahm said: "If there is a title to win at the end of the year, we want to win it,. The Club World Cup is a bit undervalued in Europe, because the Champions League is such a big thing."

Thiago, who played at the Club World Cup for Barcelona in 2011, added that it is "a nice tournament. We should indulge in it and collect the experience."
