FC Porto extend Mexico midfielder Hector Herrera's contract to 2019

FC Porto signed Mexico international Hector Herrera for two more years, extending his contract through 2019, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The midfielder retained his rescission clause of €40 million. The Tijuana native scored three goals in Champions League play for Porto last season and is playing in his third season with the club after arriving from Pachuca in a €8m transfer in 2013.

For Porto he has played in 50 total matches and scored 11 goals. With the Mexican national team, the 25-year-old was part of the 2015 Gold Cup winning team as well as the team that earned gold at the 2012 Olympics.

Herrera is one of four Mexican players for Porto: Raul Gudino, Miguel Layun and Jesus Corona are the other three in the club that are currently sharing the top spot in the Portuguese league with three wins and a draw and will face Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday in Champions League group stage play.
