Wayne Rooney back in training for Europa League after eye cut

Wayne Rooney took part in training on Wednesday ahead of Everton's Europa League Group E clash with Apollon Limassol after suffering a cut above the eye in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Bournemouth.

Rooney was caught by an arm in an aerial challenge with defender Simon Francis and came off just after half-time.

But he appeared in far better shape as he trained with teammates in front of the media, with the area around his eye looking only a little darkened.

Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka, both absent from the Bournemouth match due to foot and hamstring injuries respectively, were seen doing work away from the main group.

That also applied to James McCarthy, who has been sidelined by a knee problem and is yet to play this season but was included in the Republic of Ireland's provisional squad for World Cup qualifiers next month.

Oumar Niasse, the scorer of three goals in the last two matches, was involved in full training but is unable to play against Apollon at Goodison Park because he was not included in the squad for the Europa League group stage.
