Friendlies: Sunderland win in front of David Moyes, Everton beat Barnsley

New Sunderland manager David Moyes was in the stands to watch the Black Cats win 2-1 at Rotherham United.

A strong side including Younes Kaboul, Jack Rodwell and Jermain Defoe took the field at the New York Stadium in a game overseen by caretaker manager Paul Bracewell, with Fabio Borini and Charles N'Zogbia getting the goals.

Everton enjoyed a convincing 3-0 victory at Barnsley courtesy of an early Kevin Mirallas goal and a second-half Ross Barkley brace.

Andre Ayew, Leroy Fer, Stephen Kingsley and Kyle Naughton were all on the scoresheet as Swansea took a 4-0 first half lead against Bristol Rovers. Luke James scored what turned out to be a consolation striker for the hosts before Wayne Routledge completed the impressive 5-1 win with time to spare.

Jordon Ibe scored his first goal for Bournemouth in a 3-3 draw with Portsmouth at Fratton Park. The Cherries were forced to come from behind twice, Lewis Grabban and Ibe scoring the equalising goals, before Dan Gosling put them into a 3-2 lead with 10 minutes remaining, but they couldn't hold on to it.

West Ham got goals from Andy Carroll, as well as new signings Sofiane Feghouli and Ashley Fletcher, as Slaven Bilic's side eased to a 3-0 win against Karlsruhe.

Promoted club Burnley and Hull enjoyed wins. An Andre Gray double and Ben Mee strike saw Burnley race into a 3-0 lead at Bradford within 21 minutes. Felipe Morais pulled a goal back for the Bantams just before half-time but Michael Kightly sealed a 4-1 win 10 minutes from time.

Hull began life after Steve Bruce with a 2-0 win at Scunthorpe. A goal in each half from Shaun Maloney and Abel Hernandez sealed a comfortable victory.

Elsewhere, Stoke played out a 1-1 draw with Preston, Mame Biram Diouf equalising for the Potters in the second half after they had fallen behind to Daniel Johnson's eighth-minute strike.

Watford drew 0-0 with Anzhi Makhachkala
