John Stones to Chelsea 'not even a consideration' - Roberto Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has moved quickly to quash any speculation that a repeat of the John Stones-to-Chelsea summer transfer saga will rear its head in January.

The Everton defender was subject to four bids from the reigning Premier League champions during the last window, bids that were not welcomed and rebuffed by the Goodison Park hierarchy.

When asked if the Toffees would entertain any new offers from Chelsea once the transfer window re-opens on Jan. 1, Martinez was firm in his response.

"It doesn't matter if Chelsea come back in for him. We created a squad to see how far we could go over 10 months," Martinez said, according to the Mirror. "January doesn't come into consideration.

"We'll never lose anyone in January -- unless it's somebody who hasn't been playing and we need to find a solution. If he's a top performer, it's not even a consideration."

Martinez explained that it wasn't just Stones that wouldn't be available for transfer during the winter window, but all of the players in the Everton squad that are currently featuring for the first team.

"When you are right in the middle of a season, I think players understand that you can't sell someone if you can't replace him," he said.

"I think the uncertainty comes in the summer, where everyone speaks about possibilities.

"January is a window to solve problems with players who are not featuring as often as they feel they should, or to bring in players from a lower league to give them an opportunity."

Everton will host Premier League leaders Leicester City at Goodison Park on Saturday.
