Romelu Lukaku to shift family out of Belgium amid security concerns

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku says he is looking to move his family out of a district of Brussels that is at the centre of high-level security concerns following the terror attacks in Paris.

Lukaku has an apartment in Molenbeek, which the Belgian authorities have said was home to several people at the centre of the network involved in co-ordinating the attacks.

Belgian police have focused plenty of attention on the area, carrying out raids last week in an attempt to catch suspects.

Brussels has been on the highest level of terror alert all weekend, with the country's Prime Minister declaring that there was a "serious and imminent" threat of attacks in the capital.

Lukaku told the Mirror: "I live in Brussels and I live where the police are doing a lot of things.

"I live in Molenbeek. I have had an apartment there for six years now and it is a nice neighbourhood.

"It is calm. But with the things happening there now, it is a bit difficult. I never saw any trouble. But now we are going to move as soon as possible.

"From the national team, 30 to 40 players come from Brussels and a few others from Molenbeek. It has been a shock because at the moment the safety is the highest level of security.

"All of my family are over here. My brother doesn't live in Brussels any more. Obviously we will try to move as soon as possible.

"You just want your family to be safe."
