John Stones won't be sold by Everton if he makes a transfer request - boss

Everton will not sell defender John Stones to Chelsea even if he submits a transfer request, manager Roberto Martinez says.

The Premier League champions have made three bids to sign the centre-back this summer, all of which have been rejected.

Chelsea's latest offer of £30 million, which followed bids of £20 million and £26 million, was turned down by the Toffees on Monday.

Reports on Friday suggested that the 21-year-old, who is under contract at Goodison Park until 2019, was thinking about putting in a transfer request to force through a move.

But Martinez, who is set to complete the £6 million signing of Argentina centre-back Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate this weekend, says that he would still not allow Stones to go.

The manager believes that it is too late in the transfer window period, which ends on Sept. 1, to allow one of his key players to leave.

He told British newspapers: "When a player has a long-term contract, those things don't change at all.

"I think the situation has gone too far for any action to change it.

"If someone comes in from nowhere and puts in a transfer request, that is a different situation. In a saga that has been going on for I don't know how many weeks now, we are very clear."
