Everton win over Southampton was 'perfect' - Roberto Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez hailed a "perfect'' display as his side won 3-0 at Southampton on Saturday.

A brace from Romelu Lukaku and a strike from Ross Barkley ensured Everton bounced back in style following their 2-2 home draw with Watford last weekend.

Martinez, whose side face Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea in their next three league fixtures, told BT Sport: "It wasn't about the points, it was about the performance. I think all of the team was perfect in every individual duty.

"Every time we've come to Southampton we've found it very difficult -- we had everything today.

"We had real flair, we kept the ball really well, we defended very cleverly in the way that we stopped Southampton from forming a real threat and kept a clean sheet -- it was probably the pure example of the type of performance that we had.

"Today from the first second we were a team that had a real intent, and then the players with real talent could shine and affect the scoreline with an incredible effect."

Martinez also stressed the value of being able to adapt tactics to different situations, adding: "I think it's very important in the modern game to be flexible, when you become a bit predictable you are easy to stop.

"Today we were really dynamic and powerful on the counter. I think we got the right balance overall. I thought we were excellent in every department in our performances."
