Roberto Martinez urges Everton to replicate their Europa League form

Roberto Martinez has called on Everton to transfer their impressive European form to the Premier League in order to dismiss any threat of relegation.

His side took a giant step towards the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday with a 4-1 first-leg win over Swiss side Young Boys.

But they are only five points above the Premier League relegation drop zone, in 12th place, ahead of Sunday's home game against bottom club Leicester.

"In Europe this season we've been perfect," Martinez said. "We've enjoyed our football, played exciting. It's helped young players to learn a lot quickly. It highlights we need to take that into the domestic form.

"It's been down to little moments, and we've not got our momentum. We've been confident in our play and last night's game will be the final push to enjoy the rest of the season in the league."

Martinez said that left-back Leighton Baines is back in his squad following a recent knee injury and could replace Bryan Oviedo, who picked up a hamstring strain on Thursday.

Midfielders Leon Osman (ankle) and Steven Pienaar (knee) have also recovered from injury, and are pressing for inclusion after returning to training.

Martinez has backed defender John Stones to put the red card he picked up in Switzerland behind him.

"It has affected him, but in a positive manner," Martinez said. "He'll become a better player. The young players benefit from those experiences. John will do that.

"He is a better player because of what happened. The reaction of the team was phenomenal."
