Everton chasing Marcal

Everton are one of a number of clubs fighting to secure the signature of Nacional full-back Fernando Marcal, according to the player’s agent.

The Toffees have been linked to Marcal, 23, as they prepare for life after Leighton Baines - who looks set for a big-money move away from Goodison Park at the end of the season.

The Brazilian has been attracting interest from numerous clubs around Europe and the player’s British representative, Lee Payne of Full Contact, has confirmed that Everton are one of the sides to have had their scouts watching him.

"We know Everton have watched him, that is true - but Fernando has been playing very well and a number of clubs are following his progress," Payne told Sky Sports.

"As far as we are aware no bids have been made but we know a number of clubs have him on their list and it would not be a shock if someone did push ahead with something this month.

"But Fernando is happy and settled and so if he does not move in January that is no issue at all."
