France star Antoine Griezmann a Ballon d'Or contender - Blaise Matuidi

France midfielder Blaise Matuidi has hailed "exceptional" striker Antione Griezmann, saying he would back him to win the Ballon d'Or.

Griezmann scored twice as France booked their place in the Euro 2016 final against Portugal with a 2-0 win over Germany on Thursday.

That took the Atletico Madrid star's tally for the tournament to six, and AS quoted Matuidi as saying: "Griezmann is an exceptional player.

"He's brimming with talent, and he knows how to keep his feet on the ground.

"I think he's a candidate for the Ballon d'Or. If I had to vote, I'd vote for him.

"It's also undeniable that what Cristiano [Ronaldo] has done deserves a lot of credit, but the final is not Cristiano-Griezmann -- it's Portugal-France."

Matuidi said France would have to be wary of the threat posed by Portugal, adding: "They are a good national side, and they have experience.

"They're not just about Cristiano -- they also have Renato Sanches, who is having a great tournament, and Pepe. We are both good sides, and we're going to fight to be champions."
