Antoine Griezmann main France threat in Euro 2016 semi - ex-Germany stars

Former Germany internationals Philipp Lahm and Lothar Matthaus have picked out Antoine Griezmann as the main danger for their side in Thursday's Euro 2016 semifinal.

Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann, 25, is the leading scorer in the tournament with four goals so far, including one in France's 5-2 win over Iceland on Sunday.

Lahm, 32, retired from international football after captaining Germany to World Cup glory two years ago in Brazil.

The Bayern Munich player remembers being impressed by Griezmann in a 1-0 quarterfinal win over France in that competition.

"At the 2014 World Cup, he already showed the extent of his talent," Lahm told L'Equipe.

"Since then he's accumulated experience to become a confirmed player. His progress is consistent and today he's one of the best European forwards," he added.

"It's not by chance that he's scored so many goals with Atletico and with les Bleus."

Griezmann scored 22 league goals for Atletico Madrid this season and weighed in with seven in the Champions League before they lost on penalties to city rivals Real in the final.

While Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet have both netted three times for France at Euro 2016, Matthaus believes that Griezmann is the man Germany have to watch out for during Thursday's semifinal in Marseille.

"He's the best French player at the moment," the ex-Bayern Munich and Inter Milan midfielder said.

"Over the past few months he hasn't stopped developing. At Atletico he has become indispensable and one of the key men for Diego Simeone."
