Luka Modric could miss Croatia vs. Spain with groin injury

Luka Modric could miss Croatia's crucial Euro 2016 Group D game against Spain on Tuesday with a groin injury.

Modric, 30, came off in the 62nd minute of the 2-2 draw with Czech Republic, a game that left Croatia in need of at least a point to guarantee passage to the round of 16.

The Real Madrid midfielder scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win against Turkey and played an important role against Czech Republic, departing with Croatia 2-0 up and in control of the game.

"We will wait to see his condition and then decide whether he will play or not," Croatia coach Ante Cacic said about Modric. "We are building the team around him and we are limited without him."

Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic is also a doubt for the game against Spain because of a muscle injury.

The Croatian football federation said both players underwent tests on Saturday and results didn't show any major injuries, but it was "still early" to know whether they would be fit to play on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas outlined Spain's desire to finish top of Group D because of the impact it could have on the team they draw in the next round.

"This next game is very important because it's crucial for us to be first in the group. It will be determinant for the rest of the tournament," Fabregas said. "We got off to a good start. We have been playing well until now. But it's still early."
